Do not take the medication for longer than the course which your doctor has prescribed. The normal dosage for treating GERD in adults is 20mg once each day for between four and eight weeks. The amount may be increased by your doctor if he feels it necessary or he may increase the length of time it should be taken. For other conditions where the stomach produces excessive acid, the dosage is normally 60mg once per day for as long as is required. Omeprazole should be taken with water and normally before food.
