Omeprazole No Prescription
What is Omeprazole used for?
Doctors usually prescribe Omeprazole for the treatment of conditions caused by excessive stomach acid production such as GERD (gastro esophageal reflux disease). It can also be prescribed to treat damage to the esophagus which is caused by excessive stomach acid. Omeprazole is also used to treat gastric ulcers which have been caused by infections due to H. pylori, if used in conjunction with other antibiotics. Omeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor and it works by blocking the production of acid by the proton pumps in the stomach.
What are Omeprazole side effects?
Patients taking Omeprazole can sometimes experience side effects including headaches, vomiting, abdominal pain, gas, nausea and diarrhea. You may develop an allergic reaction to Omeprazole and signs of this could include hives; skin rash; trouble breathing or swollen throat, mouth, tongue, lips or face. You should get medical help immediately if you notice any of these signs after taking Omeprazole.
What to know before taking Omeprazole?
If you are allergic to any other medication or if you have conditions such as heart or liver disease, you should inform your doctor as you might have to be tested in order to ensure you are getting a safe dose. Omeprazole does not give immediate relief from heartburn but is prescribed rather for preventing ongoing causes of heartburn. To prevent any confusion of heartburn with a heart attack, you should contact your doctor if you are experiencing dizziness; pain which spreads to your shoulder or arm; chest pain; vomiting; nausea or sweating. If you have any conditions such as abdominal pain; vomiting or nausea; sudden weight loss; black or bloody stools; difficulty swallowing; vomit which looks like coffee grounds or has blood in it; heartburn lasting more than three months; or chest pain which occurs frequently, you should not take the over the counter form of Omeprazole. Women who are breastfeeding should not use Omeprazole as it can pass into the milk and harm the baby. Omeprazole should not be given to children unless under the instruction of your doctor.
What is the Omeprazole dosage?
Your dose of Omeprazole will be prescribed for you by your doctor according to your specific needs. Do not take larger doses than what has been prescribed for you. Do not take the medication for longer than the course which your doctor has prescribed. The normal dosage for treating GERD in adults is 20mg once each day for between four and eight weeks. The amount may be increased by your doctor if he feels it necessary or he may increase the length of time it should be taken. For other conditions where the stomach produces excessive acid, the dosage is normally 60mg once per day for as long as is required. Omeprazole should be taken with water and normally before food.
What are the Omeprazole interactions?
Omeprazole has been known to interact with certain medications including Clopidogrel, Tacrolimus, Ketoconazole, Ampicilin, Atazanir, Warfarin, Phenytoin, Theophylline, and Disulfram. It is important to tell your doctor about any other medications you are taking even, pain killers, vitamins or supplements or herbal medications as these could also interact with Omeprazole.
What should I avoid while taking Omeprazole?
Your doctor will advise you if you need to avoid any food or drinks while taking Omeprazole.
